From one home to the next.

I’m sitting here at home on the couch. The fire is going, my cat is curled up beside me, and I can smell my mom’s garlic mashed potatoes from the kitchen. And in less than 18 hours, I’ll be driving back to school.

What is it about break that—even when I’m rested and ready, even when I miss my roommates, even when my lovely family is getting on my last nerve—is never long enough? I could have slept until 2:00pm every day and would still be too tired. Could have never left my house and wouldn’t have been home enough. And definitely could have cuddled with my cat 24/7 and never gotten over how cute he is. So maybe it’s got nothing to do with break, and everything to do with home. The Nitch is my second home, certainly, and I would never hesitate to call it home, but as much as I love it there, it’s not Home. And despite all of the struggles, challenges, and sister-fights that are sure to pop-up whenever I come back to Virginia, I’ll always be sad to leave my family. The Nitch is wonderful, but it doesn’t have a working fireplace. Or my cat.

But despite the comforts of home, I couldn’t be more excited for this next semester. It’s gonna be a good one. Want proof? Check out the newest addition to the Nitch: my FAVORITE Christmas gift from this year that my sister Christine got for me. I mean, really, with this in my room, how could the semester not go well?
