Dream Jobs, Friends, and an Ode to Wedding Guests

It’s been a dream job really, in so many ways. I get to do what I love, while using a talent and passion with which I’ve been blessed to bless others. I could stop right there and never ask for anything more in a job and be beyond content for the rest of my life, or at least for as long as I’m able to continue being a wedding photographer. But the truth that blows my mind the more and more I think about it? It doesn’t stop there. I love that I get to preserve memories forever. I love the energy that exists during reception dancing. I love watching a husband and wife sharing their first meal together. I love that every time I work, there’s cake. I love working with my friends.

I could go on and on, I promise, but I’ll spare you—this time. I’ve been so lucky to get to shoot my first summer of weddings for friends, mostly because it would have been a heck of a lot more difficult to book five weddings for strangers. Me and this business are extremely indebted to the amazing friends and couples who have trusted me to preserve this incredibly moment in their story. And it makes me realize that this is how I want to run my business always: as though I’m working for my best friends. I want to treat my clients as friends. Scratch that. I want to get to know my clients so well that they ARE my friends, and so when the most important day of their life comes, they can trust me as my amazing couples this summer have trusted me. So that when it comes time for them to say their vows, my eyes well up with warm tears because I’m not just photographing vows for some random couple, I’m photographing the moment that two friends become one forever. I don’t know if I can do what I love to do any other way.

But this summer I was wasn’t just a friend of the bride and groom, I was friends with so many of the incredible wedding guests!! It made some of the craziness a little more subdued, the aching feet a little less tired, to look across the dance floor and see a familiar face, supporting me just by being there and flashing me a crazy face or getting down with a ridiculous dance move.

So here’s to my friends, the wedding guests. Goodness knows this summer many of my friends from school have earned their Professional Wedding Guest badge of honor. I like to call them wedding warriors. I’ve so enjoyed spending my first summer doing what I love with you all. Here’s a little sum’ sum’ dedicated to you, your ridiculous faces, and your wildest dance moves. You saw the camera in my hand, so no excuses ;)

Also in this post, a really fun game of Find the Photog AND Find the Stephanie Dee Brides!

So lucky to celebrate with the Nitches all summer long!

Recognize these two? :) Promised you’d have your blog limelight, you two! Before they were Mr and Mrs! Break it down, Scotty :)
So classy! Erica is always ready for a picture. If you haven’t met the Nitches before, these ladies were my beloved college roommates. We’re a little unique and we like it that way.

I’ve lalaLOVED celebrating so much love with you all this summer! Can’t wait for more!!
