The Office Nook

It’s one of the things I looked forward to most about having my own place: a designated office space. A place to edit, to store, to call my own and be inspired. A place that I wouldn’t mind sitting for hours every day while I worked at my dreams.

When I started planning for my room, I realized that most townhouse bedrooms don’t exactly afford the luxury of having a stand-alone office space, especially if you own more than two pieces of clothing that need to be stored! I wrestled over this because the last thing I wanted for my new office space was for it to be right next to my bed—it makes late-night editing sessions pretty difficult! I wanted my office to feel separate from my sleeping space, and then it hit me… an office closet!!

I like to affectionately call it the Nook. It’s definitely cozy, but for now it is perfect! I solved the issue of losing closet space by purchasing an ikea wardrobe (on sale!) to hide away most of my clothes, and suddenly my set-apart office came to life! Already this room had been such a blessing to me and I am weirdly excited for the hours and nights I’ll get to sit here doing work. (Please don’t judge me for the work-a-holic tendencies in my DNA?)

I LOVE working in this space. My mustard yellow walls help to separate my little nook from the rest of my tiny room, which is essential for me. Having a home office in your bedroom is dangerous with the temptations of a cozy, inviting bed or a closet full of dresses that you haven’t tried on in a few months and now you’re wondering how they fit (you ladies know what I’m talking about!). But the Nook reenergizes me because its full of things I love—my books, my friends, my favorite colors. It gives me room to breath, even if it’s just a little room. Since I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to decorating and I change my mind SO often, I am excited to share this space with you after talking about it for so long! Enjoy this 180-tour of my workspace. Just 180 because behind the camera in all of these images is my bedroom! Which will be shared too, soon enough!

Before. I knew moving in that this space would be my office so I never had any clothes stored in it, but gosh, it was boring!

And after! So much prettier and more colorful!

These boxes, magazine holder, and shelf are all IKEA.

I wanted to be able to post images around my space that inspire me for whatever reason—light, color, pose, style… So I spray painted a roll of cork gold and tacked it up!

But models and celebrities aren’t the only ones that inspire me. I LOVE seeing how my clients use their photos in their stationery! (ps- that adorable couple on the bottom left? You’ll be seeing a lot of them next week, they’re getting married TOMORROW!)

The “command center” keeps me organized. Current folders and mail stay here, and that chart tracks where every client is in my timeline! Thanks to Katelyn James for that amazing idea.

I have always wanted a bookshelf organized by color! Guess which section is my favorite :)

Have you noticed a new friend making a cameo in all of these? My new iMac arrived this week and it as already been such a blessing! So much more room while editing and so much faster, I’m already saving time not having to wait for apps to open. My little 5-year-old Mac Book Pro is starting to struggle these days. And that bench in the photo below? It’s my file cabinet! Check out more about that right here.
