Michelle & Kennan | Fredericksburg Backyard Wedding

It was the last day of class, not to mention Kennan’s last chance to talk to the cute girl he’d been eyeing all semester long. A senior taking a general education class that he’d skipped over as an underclassman, Kennan didn’t find the material of his Logic 101 class very interesting, but he had found the cute girl on the class roster to be more than enough reason to come to class every week. When class ended, Kennan timed his exit with hers and made up an excuse to walk with her as she headed home. Through the small talk, he learned her major—Chinese—and that she was very concerned with how she fared on their final test, but by the time she turned to walk home, Kennan hadn’t even learned her name. Thankfully, Chinese majors are few and far between, and Kennan got in touch with a friend who knew the girl’s name—Michelle. And last weekend, after a few years of dating under their belts, those one-time classroom strangers tied the knot and started out on a brand new adventure together.

Michelle and Kennan are two of the sweetest, smartest (seriously—Michelle majored in Chinese and Kennan is just about to finish up law school!) and most fun-loving people I’ve had the joy of getting to know. But as wonderful and intelligent as they are apart, together, they make quite the power duo. As they celebrated the start of their married life together in the gorgeous, fall-filled backyard of Kennan’s childhood home, friend after friend took their turn at the mic, each one echoing the same sentiment: how lucky they feel to have such a fantastic couple in their lives.

I had such a blast with Michelle and Kennan on their day. Every single detail—down to Michelle’s Wonder Woman socks (complete with mini-capes!) and the moon bounce at the reception—was perfectly them. I loved how they took the time to weave themselves into so many aspects of such an amazing celebration. Congratulations, Michelle and Kennan! Without further ado…

Introducing: Mr. and Mrs. McArtor:

How great are these socks? That cape!

I loved Michelle’s gorgeous bouquet…

So many thanks to Brooke for coming along with me for the day! And for snagging the shots of the guys getting ready :)

Michelle!!! You are such a classic, beautiful bride!

Always one of my favorite shots… MARRIED!!

We headed into downtown Fredericksburg for portraits after the ceremony, and the overcast skies did us good! The theme of the night was Icing Kennan, and it just got better and better… ;)

The bouquets were soo perfect for a fun, fall wedding

Gorgeous, girls!

In high school, Kennan wore his Superman shirt under his graduation gown, and proudly showed his super apparel after grabbing his diploma. It was only fitting to bring that back for his wedding day!

The Wonder Woman to his Superman…

Seriously, y’all are WAY too cute!

Favorite!

Go on, girl…

On the left… so sweet!

If Michelle + Kennan = Love, then…

Louis + Kennan = Hamburger. Obviously!

We were just a little strapped for time heading back to the reception, but what is a wedding day if you can’t stop for some Carl’s ice cream?!

Love, love, love.

The details all around the McArtor’s home were just amazing.

Leaves for escort cards and a calendar guest book… awesome ideas!

PORCUPINE TABLE NUMBERS, YOU GUYS!!!

And how great is this cake?? I’ll be honest, I have no idea who the characters are on top, but I know that they are perfectly Michelle and Kennan!

Michelle and Kennan are both Pitt graduates, and it’s a Pittsburgh tradition for family and friends to bake cookies for wedding receptions. One tradition that I would gladly adopt! Meet Ein! (As in, short for Einstein.) Michelle and Kennan’s adorable corgi was also their ring-bearer and general supplier of cute throughout their wedding day! And look at that miniature Ein!

Dancing without Ein? Never! If you’re still not convinced of how much fun Michelle and Kennan are, this next shot should do it…

Go in for the garter and… surprise! You got Iced.

And he was such a champ!

A little love to leave you with…

Congratulations, Michelle and Kennan! So many thanks to the vendors that made such a beautiful day possible!:
