Favorite Things | The ONA Chelsea Bag

Anyone with an interest in Photography, from amateur to professional, can tell you that it is NOT an cheap hobby to get into. Even entry-level DSLR’s can cost you a pretty penny and once you start investing into an army of lenses whoooo boy the costs start to add up! Because my photography equipment is part of my livelihood, I try to take excellent care of my gear and have it all insured just in case something awful ever happens. But there was one place where I was lacking in good protection for my camera: an everyday camera bag. I would just throw my camera body and lenses into any old bag and away we would go. Not the smartest thing to do with the gear that earns you a living. So, the search for the perfect camera bag began.

In the past few years, a ton of great camera bag designers have come into the game, with more and more bags looking like something you’d want to take with you while shopping at the mall rather than something you’d take with you on an expedition into the arctic, which seemed to be the standard requirement for all camera bags until recently. I wanted a bag that kept my gear well protected without screaming, “I AM A CAMERA BAG!” Enter: ONA‘s Chelsea bag. I’d looked for the perfect bag for a long time before I stumbled upon this beauty, and when I finally found it I knew my search was more or less finito. I mean, just look at it! That leather, the gorgeous golden hardware—I was smitten. But I held off on making the purchase because I didn’t really need it, that is until I booked my quick fire trip to the UK and needed a low-profile way to tote my camera through three very busy cities!

Now that my ONA bag has been field tested, I can confidently say how much I LOVE this bag! It was the perfect carry-on, a wonderful tote for exploring cities, and still looks fabulous even after a trip across the pond. ONA definitely makes some excellent quality bags, and I am absolutely the proud owner of my Chelsea! Check out below for a few detail shots of this gorgeous lady—I can’t wait for the next adventure she accompanies me on.

Andie - Hi Stephanie! I love your review of the ONA Chelsea – I’m currently torn between the Bowery and the Palma myself (since I prefer smaller bags). I was wondering, what camera model and lenses did you insert in the above photo? Could it fit a Nikon D5100 with an 18-105mm lens?ReplyCancel

      Steph - Hi Andie! I usually carry a Nikon d800 with a 35mm 1.4 attached, along with a 50mm 1.4 and a 105mm 2.8, so I think there’d be more than enough room for a D1500 with 18-105! :)ReplyCancel

Claire - Hi Stephanie! I see you wrote this back in the beginning of 2014! How did it hold up? I’m specifically worried about the handles fraying near the hardware since our cameras and junk are so heavy. I don’t expect it to last forever and ever, but if I’m dropping that kind of moolah, it needs to be a sturdy beast!
