Well, THIS post has been a long time coming! These images are actually from last September (which I’m just now realizing was embarrassingly six months ago), when I had the opportunity to attend Katelyn James‘ Workshop Experience. After six years of
stalking following her blog and marveling at the growth of her business and the beauty of her incredible photography, I finally got to learn from her first hand. It almost seemed unfair to her, because even without attending one of her workshops I’d already learned so much from Katelyn’s open-door policy on her blog. In the years the I’ve been reading, the girl has shared everything from her favorite lenses to the most valuable business lessons she’s learned, from how to best plan a wedding day timeline to the life and times of her adorable pup, Bokeh. (He’s a Bichpoo.) Without even meeting her, she’d already taught me so much about what it takes to be a successful wedding photographer.
And the workshop? It was all that AND a bag of chips. (You guys, I’ve been waiting to be able to use that phrase again since 2001!) I drove away from Katelyn and Michael’s house, which they so graciously opened up to 11 eager photographers for two whole days, with so many immediate take aways and ideas that I wanted to fold into my own work. Not the least of these take aways were the photos that I shot during the styled shoot portion of the two days! This was actually the very first styled shoot I’d been a part of, and you better believe that I was absolutely drooling over the abundance of gorgeous details to capture! The Rose Gold theme was right up my alley (have I told y’all about my borderline-unhealthy love for gold spray paint?) and I had so much fun getting to take the time to photograph all of the care that the shoot’s vendors put into their work. I love styled shoots because of the inspiration that they provide for both photographers AND brides. If you’re a bride or groom in the midst of planning your wedding, what kind of details and styled shoots are you most inspired by? What awesome ideas have you seen that you plan to incorporate into your own celebration?
Enjoy a few of my favorite shots from the workshop, and HAPPY FRIDAY, Y’ALL!!
That gold silverware? Sa-woooon!
I now have a very serious love affair with giant soft floral garlands.
These candle holders are such a fun, unique detail and easy DIY that add SO much style!
And then this couch… can we take a minute and talk about this couch? I want to live on it. Sleep on it. Curl up on it and never leave and be surround by mustard yellow goodness forever and ever.
Okay, the fabulous couple sitting ON the couch aren’t too shabby, either! Thanks so much, Jess and Bob, for voluntarily putting yourselves in front of a dozen cameras.
Of course Bokeh had to be included, too. Just checking out what’s for dessert.
He really got into the spirit of the shoot. Sparkles and all.
A million thank you’s to Katelyn for making this all happen! And to these awesome vendors who donated their time and talents to create such a beautiful shoot:
