It’d been a few weeks of trying to nail down the perfect location for their engagement session, and we weren’t having much luck. In fact, it wasn’t until the morning of their session that we confirmed permission at the beautiful Afton Mountain Vineyard in Charlottesville, Virginia, but once we got the go ahead and I drove up to the winery in the mountains, I knew it was going to be worth every ounce of trouble.
To describe Hailey and Stephen as an easy-going couple may be the biggest understatement I’ve made this year. Relaxed, laid-back… nope, none of those descriptors will do. What Hailey and Stephen possess, even more than a breezy temperament, is a joie de vivre that can’t be matched, and it’s one of the things that I love most about them. Even in this wild time of their lives, while they’re planning a wedding AND a move to New York City, together they know that when you find time to enjoy the little things, the big things just have a way of working out perfectly. I had SO much fun spending an incredibly beautiful evening with them wandering the rolling hills of Afton Mountain, enjoying the beautiful views and gorgeously hazy light (reminiscent of that Cali magic light!).
If you’ll allow me to get a little sappy for a minute, I just have to say how much this session embodied everything I love about this “job” (emphasis on the quotation marks) of mine. Meeting and getting to know the best couples in the world (and sometimes their dogs!), sharing a glass of wine and chatting about life, and then spending an hour in the most beautiful light, laughing, running, nuzzling, telling bad jokes—just playing!—and creating beautiful images that tell a story of two souls in love. There are few things better, and I’m so thankful to you, Hailey and Stephen for letting me join your world for one gorgeous evening. Enjoy a few select favorites from their session and get ready to melt from the double-play power combo of H+S’s sweetness and their pup Louie’s cuteness!
