Despite what Ms. Morissette sings, I’d like to argue that rain on your wedding day is actually not ironic at all. Zero percent irony, in fact.
I’ve heard lots of ideas of what rain of the wedding day variety means. That it means good luck. That it means bad luck. That it signifies blessing and prosperity. That it’s unavoidable. That with a good back-up plan it doesn’t matter. That it signifies fertility. (Can’t make this stuff up, folks!) Endless assertions of what the forecast on your wedding day will mean for the future of your marriage.
I don’t know about any of that, but here’s what I do know: rain on your wedding day has the power to bring the focus back to exactly where it’s supposed to be, on the fact that two people are starting a crazy, wild, lifelong adventure of a marriage together. When all of our perfectly planned Pinterest projects get blown away, and there is rain leaking through the tent and guests are caught in rain-induced traffic, there is only one thing to do—embrace the imperfection and know that the only thing really, truly matters on your wedding day is that you get to say I Do with the love of your life.
And that is exactly what Augusta and Kevin did. On a day with a forecast that called for 100% rain all day long, Augusta and Kevin never, not once, lost the joy that comes with saying yes to forever to your best friend. I mean, just wait until you see Kevin’s face as Augusta walked down the aisle toward him, and you’ll get it: these two probably would have joyfully married in the middle of a field during the downpour and never lost the smiles on their faces. Though, thankfully, it never came to that :) And, blessing of blessings, as we stepped outside after their ceremony the grey skies were holding the rain back and we were even able to sneak some portraits in rain-free!
Augusta and Kevin, I can’t say enough wonderful things about you two. Your hearts, your joy, your HUGE love for each other and your friends and your family were such an incredible thing to get to experience and photograph. Thanks for letting me be a small part, and I hope you get to feel that joy all over again through your photos!
