If I’m not careful, this blog post could be pages and pages long.
Not just because I have SO many photos to share (Though I do! Culling for this post was not at all an easy task), but because I have SO much to say about Katie and Ben. I could write a few paragraphs about how beautiful and fun their wedding day was (And it was! We’re talking to-die-for florals, boutonnières delivered in cigar boxes, a JENGA guest book, the cutest flower girls and ring bearers around, a trolley, AND the greatest cake smash of all time!) but I hope that you’ll see that for yourself in the photos below. I could tell you the impossible lovely story of how they first met as members of the bridal party at the wedding of both of their childhood best friends (that I photographed!) but actually I’ve already done that here.
No, instead I think I’ll try to express to you just how excellent these two human beings are and how stellar it is to get to watch them start their married life together. A lot of couples say their vows on their wedding day and though they truly do mean them, they have only a theoretic idea of what some of the more monumental promises, the ones like “for better or for worse” and “in sickness and in health,” really mean. Not Katie and Ben. Late last fall, Katie’s family received the earth-shaking news that both her mom and older sister had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Without missing a beat, Ben jumped right in to help support, encourage, and fight alongside his future family. Driving back and forth across Pennsylvania just to spend a few hours with Katie while she was helping her sister during chemo, or taking the time to play with his soon-to-be nephews so that they never missed a beat of just being kids. Ben’s kind heart, steadfastness, and gentle spirit are the perfect complement to Katie’s sweet soul, bold passion and quick wit. When I got to see and photograph these two crazy wonderful people stand before their friends and family and promise to be beside each other through all of the good and the wonderful as well as all of muck and the mire, not only did I not doubt it for an instant, but my heart did a little jig of praise seeing how faithful God was in bringing together two people who are just so right for one another.
To say that it was a joy to see the two families have a reason to come together and celebrate would be the ultimate understatement. By the same token, to express my gratitude for being welcomed into such a true and fun celebration of love and life and family would be nearly impossible. So, I’ll just say this: Katie and Ben, thank you for sharing your joy and genuine love with me and everyone you meet. I can’t wait to see where their adventure story takes you two, together. Here’s hoping these photos will always help you remember that very first, glorious day.
