An American and a Canadian meet in Thailand and fall in love.
If you’re thinking that sounds like the start of a joke with an awful punch line, I can’t even tell you just how wrong you are! No, my friends, that is that start of Lauren and Jason’s real-life love story. Lauren was about to begin second year of teaching at a small school outside of Bankok, Thailand when a group of new young, fun, single guys moved into the apartment next to hers. Also teachers, the two apartments began to get to know each other pretty quickly between working together at school and hanging out as each others houseguests over music and good food. But because a story involving three countries wasn’t quite enough for Lauren and Jason, they decided to throw a fourth in just for good measure ;) And during a group trip to Cambodia one weekend, the two began to realize that, hey, wait a minute, there really something here.
Fast forward a year or so, and after a few more adventures together, Lauren and Jason didn’t have any questions about whether or not what they had was the real deal, and so while Lauren was home in the State on fall break, he got to scheming his proposal. Jason will be the first to tell you, however, that purchasing the perfect engagement ring in a foreign country is no easy task. So he did what any good teacher would do: created a powerpoint of his options and ideas and sent it along to some of Lauren’s friends back home to get their input. Genius! When Lauren returned to Thailand, Jason wasted no time in forging ahead with his plan. So on a day of exploring Bankok together, Jason asked a very excited Lauren if she would marry him, to which she happily agreed!
After months of planning a state-side wedding from Thailand (Can I just reiterate that? These two planned their entire wedding from THAILAND!), finally finally the day arrived for Lauren and Jason to make it all official. Lauren, looking absolutely stunning in her custom Thailand-made gown, got to share some of the most important places from her childhood with her husband. Not only were L+J married in the church that Lauren grew up in, but their reception was held in the field of her school! It was an absolutely beautiful day made even more lovely by the joy that radiated from Lauren, Jason and their families. Honored to be a part, I hope you’ll enjoy a few of my favorite moments from this day!
